Wavertree derives from the Old English waefre and treow meaning wavering tree. [1]
The origin has been linked to Anglican through the reference of the elements that are normally found within the midlands rather than the north [2]
There has been multiple forms of Wavertree these are:
1086 Wauretreu
1167 Wavertrea
1196 Wavertre
1381 Wartre [3]
The name comes from the aspen trees that are found in the area still to date. Wavertree began to grow in the 18th century, with new buildings and a larger population [3].
