Fairfield

Fairfield (L6 L7), is primarily a residential area with a few industrial estate roads within Liverpool.
When researching, Fairfield, has been extremely difficult to gather data upon; there has been no clear indication as to when the district was first recognised. However, there is some indication through its name and the derivational breakdown.

The first recorded name for Fairfield was ‘Fornefeled’ in 1129[1]. This indicates that there has been settlement and influence within the Late Old English towards Early Middle English period.

The denotation for Fairfield means, “land where swine are pastured”, this gives an indication of a more Anglo-Saxon[2]Old English place name, rather than Middle English.

Fairfield, in later years, is marked on Yates’ 1786 map which had an indication of good land. This is consistent throughout time, until later developments where the area grew in the Victorian period as a rural suburb[3].
