Tuebrook

Tuebrook’s postcode district covers the L6 and L13 area. The place-name comes from one of the city’s lost rivers which flows through the suburb of West Derby, the Tew Brook, which was the main tributary of the River Alt.

The name Tuebrook was recorded as ‘Tubruke’ in the 16th Century and is thought to be derived from an Old English phrase meaning ‘meeting place by a brook’.

The brook was marked on 18th century maps, and is believed to have flown parallel to Green Lane, crossing West Derby Road, which was known as Tewbrook Lane.
