Prescot

Prescot’s postcode covers the L34/L35 area of Liverpool. It is a town and Civil Parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsely in Merseyside.

Prescot’s etymology derives from the Anglo-Saxon word prēost. ‘Priest’ and ‘Cot’. Meaning Cottage or small house which was usually inhabited by a Priest. A Priest’s Cottage. 

From 1509 to 1609, Prescot was home to a purpose built Shakespearean theatre, Prescot Playhouse. By the late Sixteenth Century, Prescot inhabited 400 people. Population remained similar for many years until the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century where it become the centre for the watch and clock making industry.
