Prenton (CH43), is a district sitting within Birkenhead within Merseyside.
Its first appearance was logged in The Domesday Book of 1086[1], with a very similar spelling which fits suitably towards a Norman and French influence. Domesday describes Prenton as having a very large woodland area which may reflect the importance and name of the settlement.
“Pren” is Welsh in meaning the material wood[2]and “ton” can be the Saxon spelling for a settlement which is suggesting of its linguistic period[3].
This Old English and Anglo Saxon influence of additional suffixes can be similarly noted in other districts such as: Garston, Everton, Bebington and Huyton.
