Crosby derived from Old Norse Cross + byr meaning farm and settlement. Crosby was featured in The Domesday Book as Crosebi in 1086, and Crosseby in 1212 [1].
It is believed to have Viking roots, but it was not until the opening of the Crosby and Southport Railway in 1841 that it became a suburb of Liverpool [2].
The early history of Crosby is connected to Benedictine Priory of the Nuns of St. Helens founded around 1212 [3].
