Birkenhead

Birkenhead has an Old English and Angle Origin. There appears to be multiple origins of its etymology. These include ‘Brice’ meaning ‘Birth tree’. Later, ‘A birch tree,’ another name is ‘heapop,’ meaning a head, which appears to be of Old English origin.[1]

Sixteen Benedictine Monks from a priory were founded in 1150 in Birkenhead in honour of St. Mary and St. James. The priory still stands and is a Grade I listed building.
